GIO Cup Round Two
Round Two saw Keebra Park back in action at their home ground, Southport Tigers, against Coombabah State High School. Once again, this was a highly anticipated game as the strength of both sides is well known.
The past two years have seen Coombabah align itself with the Gold Coast Titans and recruit heavily from both local and interstate stocks. This year, their team is perceived to be the most balanced side they have put together in the past three years.
From the kickoff, a close arm wrestle ensued with both sides going tit for tat, Keebra drawing just ahead 6-4 after 8 minutes. However, Keebra then stole away to a 30 point lead before halftime.
Hat tricks to Tyrone Roberts and Jesse Arthurs and tries to Ethan Paikea and young gun Sua, finished the game and saw the home side victorious 54-16.
The 15’s went into their own game with a bit of a depleted side, as four of their South Coast players were rested ahead of their game in the Queensland Maroons side. They struggled to build pressure early on, but once they had weathered the initial minutes, they managed to regain their structure and continued on unbeaten.
Round Three will see Keebra Park take on hot rivals Wavell State High School at Wavell in Brisbane.
