Quarter Final action meant Keebra travelled to Brisbane to play an unknown Morayfield State High School side. Although never playing against or seeing the Morayfield side, Keebra knew they were going to be in for a tough battle. However, the boys obviously weren’t up for the challenge, turning in our worst warmup of the year. The clear lack of energy and enthusiasm emanated throughout the side and resulted in a very sluggish start to the game. Keebra were able to eventually find the try line through strong carries by James Pere and Seb Millard to take a 10-0 half time lead. Although never hitting our full potential, Keebra were able to extend the lead to 20-4 halfway through the second half on the back of tries to Ovard Tuilesu and Pere. Tuilesu showed great determination in fighting off several defenders from close range whilst Pere used his athleticism on the edge to sprint away from 30m. With about 6 minutes to go, Reece Walsh was sin binned for a tackle that looked uglier than what it actually was. Morayfield took full advantage scoring off the next set and cut the Keebra lead to 10 points. Several minutes later with Keebra hot on attack, Morayfield were able to intercept a pass and run 80m setting up a tense finish. Walsh was finally able to re-join the side and restore Keebra to 13 on the field for the final minute. He made immediate impact and made up for his time in the bin by scoring a try to seal a 24-16 victory.
Keebra knows that if they want to win the Hancock Cup, they need to show more respect to every side that they come up against. Although disappointed with the way they played, Keebra got the win and can move on to a Semi Final match up against Wavell next week. During the regular season, Keebra was the only side to knock off Wavell with a 30-18 victory.
