Renouf and Hancock Champions 2017
Congratulations to the under 13’s who defeated Coombabah State High School yesterday to capture the Renouf Cup for 2017. Despite a flu breakout spreading through the side, the boys were gallant throughout the match skipping away to a 12-4 half time lead. Coombabah bounced back to post three successive tries and lead the game 18-16. With only minutes remaining, Darias Christie stepped up and barged his way over from short range to hand Keebra Park a 20-18 victory. Man of the match honours went to hooker Blake Mozer for an outstanding defensive effort.
In the Hancock Cup, Keebra Park’s perfect season was on the line as they lined up against a formidable Palm Beach Currumbin side. The game was an arm wrestle from the beginning with both sides trying to assert dominance through the middle third of the field. Keebra Park managed to gain the upper hand with two tries to winger Jadyce Vaalepu and one to Reece Walsh before the half time break. The second half begun much the same as the first with Palm Beach attacking the Keebra line. Keebra Park showed resilience beyond their years to repel every attack and close out the game 18-10. Man of the match honours went to halfback Reece Walsh who was instrumental in guiding the side around the park.
Congratulations to all boys who wore the Keebra Park jersey and represented the school with pride. It’s a fantastic achievement to win the Renouf and Hancock Cup’s and bodes well for the future years.
