To top off what had been a promising
week for Keebra Park, after a hard fought win against
local rivals PBC on Wednesday Evening, the annual Keebra
Park - Wests Tigers Primary Schools sevens competition
was held on Thursday and hailed as a great success by
all those involved.
Teams came from all areas of the Gold Coast and Brisbane
including Kruger SS from Ipswich and Springwood SS from
South Brisbane.
On hand to chat with the primary school coaches was
Injured Wests Tigers Lock, Liam Fulton who added a bit
of celebrity and local media interest to the day. Liam
said that it was great to be able to help put something
back into school sport. "I played school football
myself and i know how important these sort of events
are to the kids" he said. ""Its been
good to see the range of talent on show and I'm sure
some of these blokes will go all the way" he added.
Eventual winners were Kruger SS from Ipswich who managed
to keep up their high intensity through out the day
and emerge victorious. Congratulations to all the teams
though especially the semi finalists, Ashmore, Elanora
and Springwood . A special mention to Labrador SS who
drew with Kruger in their quarter final (that shows
the closeness of the day)
It was a great day with Subway providing tasty lunches
and the Gatorade showcase on site. Organiser Kurt Richards
was happy with the day and once again predicted an even
bigger event next year. "It was really good to
get some of the Brisbane teams down this years and that
shows that there is interest from all over the area.
Next year we could be looking at an increase in team
numbers as its getting that popular." he said.
Once again well done to all teams and hope to see you
all next year.
