It has been a busy couple of weeks for this years open
squad who apart from featuring in the recent Arrive
Alive Cup final in Sydney have also been preparing for
life after school.
For two of the boys this preparation included a two
week tour of the UK with the Wests Tigers Cubs. Damon
Harth and Kingi Akoula had outstanding seasons with
the school side and this form secured them places in
the Cubs and by all accounts it was a great experience.
Apart from the actual playing side of things which resulted
in two wins (Huddersfield and Halifax) and a loss against
Leeds, the boys said the experience gained from an insight
into other cultures was fantastic.
Kingi said he had never tasted anything better than
Yorkshire pudding and cold pies....after he got out
of hospital for an upset stomach and Damon said he was
impressed by the politeness of the locals ....although
he still isn't sure what....."EE BY GUM LADDIE
HOW ART THOU" means.
On a more serious note Kingi was awarded man of the
match for the Huddersfield game and both boys impressed
the team management. For full details of the games see
the WestsTigers Web site.
Another of the team is just back from a recent trip
to New Zealand and is about to embark on a 5 day stint
at the AIS in Sydney so we will keep you informed as
to how that went in next weeks update.
