| While there were not many reasons
for Broncos supporters supporters to smile after another
loss in the National competition to Sydney City, the
same could not be said of the Keebra Park faithful who
converged on Suncorp for the curtain raiser and witnessed
the boys down North Queensland heavyweights Kirwan SHS
20-10 in the Queensland final of the "Arrive Alive
Cup".
While it was not the most clinical performance it was
a convincing win against a Kirwan side boasting 6 Queensland
State players who never really troubled the Keebra side.
Matt Parata opened the scoring kicking a two point penalty
off the back of a wealth of possession and this was
soon followed by the first try of the evening when Lock
Tim Leary crossed the line first after a repeat set
of six kept the Townsville boys pinned on their line.
Kirwan replied with a try of their own and Keebra Park's
Bodine Thompson rounded of the first half showing some
classy footwork to open up the Kirwan defences and increase
the score to 14-4.
Keebra came out with a more focussed attitude in the
second half and it was Damon Harth the solid Keebra
centre who opened their account with a strong charge
to the line off of a Dane Macdonald pass. With Kirwan
scoring in the latter stages of the game the final score
was Keebra Park 20, Kirwan -10.
With the state championship now wrapped up the boys
will turn their attention to the national semi final
which will be against Tamworth school, the Farrer Memorial
Agricultural College. This game will be played on September
9th and all going well they will then progress to the
Australian Grand
