What can we offer that other schools may not?
AFFILIATION WITH THE WESTS
TIGERS NRL CLUB
Keebra Park State High School has always valued affiliations
with Industry leaders that allow our students to complete
traineeships and apprenticeships. These affiliations
have always been evident in the traditional vocational
areas and our affiliation with Wests Tigers is a reflection
of Keebra Park’s perception of sport as a viable
career option for today’s student. The constant
communication and support from the Wests Tigers also
ensures that our program graduates are prepared both
physically and mentally for the transition from student
to professional football player. This is a view echoed
by Wests Tigers assistant coach Royce Simmons.
“Today’s footballer needs to be familiar
with the expectations of a career in the NRL. The Keebra
Park program really does prepare these boys. They come
to us aware not only of the physical requirements but
also what we as a club expect of them on and off the
field.”
THIS PROVIDES KEEBRA PARK STATE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES
A DIRECT, GENUINE PATHWAY FROM SCHOOLBOY FOOTBALL INTO
THE PROFESSIONAL RANKS OF AN NRL CLUB.
THE KEEBRA PARK SPORTS
SPECIALISATION RUGBY LEAGUE PROGRAM
Sport Specialisation classes are offered for grade
8-12. In grade 8 and 9 these classes form part of the
HPE program. In grade 10-12 some of the areas covered
include:
- Skill Development
- Weight Training
- Diet and Nutrition
- Public speaking
- Sport Psychology
- Sports Journalism
Qualified sports specialisation teachers and coaches
are on staff, (whom have completed degrees in Exercise
Science). Also a fully qualified strength and conditioning
coach at the cutting edge of athletic development. Each
staff member is in direct consultation with WestsTigers
senior playing, coaching and development staff.
A professional approach to the game with players instructed
to not only act the part of a professional player but
to also have pride in the way that they conduct themselves
on and off the field . At Keebra there is a strong emphasis
on discipline, with each student and parent signing
a “Players Agreement” upon enrolment. There
has been shown to be a direct correlation between the
student’s behaviour within the Rugby League program
and their behaviour within a classroom situation in
the other subject areas.
COMPETITIONS
Each of the age groups, from 13s through to Opens,
play in Rugby League competitions that are outside of
the normal school sport fixtures. These competitions
are invitational and include only the elite of Rugby
League in South Queensland.
Under 13s, 14s and 15’s teams play in the Broncos
Big 8 competitions.
