While the game was in many ways a trial for Keebra Park
(a chance to try out some of the newcomers to the sports
specialisation program) the inaugural Titans Challenge
Trophy was always going to be a hard fought encounter
given that the opposition was local rivals Palm Beach
Currumbin.
In Blustery conditions and in front of a large enthusiastic
crowd the curtain raiser to the Titand first Carrara
game opened with a series of blockbusting hit ups and
some solid defence by both teams. Running with the wind
the PBC attack failed to capitalise on the conditions
and it was Keebra who opened the scoring with a well
worked move down the right hand side that saw newcomer
Beau Dinsdale cross in the corner. Two further tries
to Keebra through Corey Norman and Ricardo Parata (brother
of ex graduate and Wests Tigers Premier league player
Matt) and a try to PBC took the half time score to 16-6
to Keebra.
The second half saw Keebra probe the PBC defence and
it looked like the floodgates were about to open but
some poor options allowed PBC to creep back into contention
with a couple of good individual efforts. The last period
of the match saw PBC attack the Keebra Park in an effort
to level the scores and a loose pass gave Vaha the flying
Keebra centre an intercept that saw him acclerate down
the left hand side of the field to score under the posts
(well nearly). This gave a full time score of 28-16
and meant that the inuagural winners of the Titans Trophy
were Keebra...
Well done boys and good luck for the rest of the Broncos
Challenge Competition
