This weeks Arrive Alive Cup quarter finals at Wynnum
Oval were a fairly straightforward affair for the “Big
Four” schools with Keebra, Wavell, Sunnybank and
Palm Beach Currumbin all progressing safely through
to the semi final stages. What was pleasing though was
the clinical approach shown by Keebra in their 74-4
demolition of Harristown high from Toowoomba. In a game
where it would have been easy for the boys to embark
on personal missions of glory it was good to see them
hold their shape and develop a team approach that will
stand them in good stead for the upcoming clash with
Sunnybank State High next Wednesday night.
Playing into the wind (the notorious Wynnum Doctor)
in the first half the boys started confidently and clicked
into gear straight from the off. Mechanical sets of
six with clinical kicks provided a platform that saw
them ease to a 38-4 half time score. Communication and
anticipation in defence enabled Keebra to keep a clean
sheet in the second half which in itself is a great
psychological boost leading into the latter stages of
the competition. The game against Sunnybank is sure
to be a clash of epic proportions so do yourself a favour
and head on down to Runaway Bay on Wednesday night (28th
July 2005). The action starts at 6-30 pm so see you
there.
THIRTEENS BOW OUT OF RENOUF SHIELD
In other games this week the under 13’s narrowly
went down to Clairvaux Mackillop College in the 2004
Steve Renouf Shield. With a penalty count of 8-1 and
two disallowed tries the boys would consider themselves
unlucky, however it was also a lesson in how costly
errors can be in finals footy. Hard running by Devon
Falaago and Ammon Fruen was backed up with great defence
by Danny White and Garrick Olislagers. Other players
having good games were Josh Schultz, William Sawtell
and Shannon Rapana- Peeni. Well done boys on a good
season and looking forward to taking things a stage
further next year.
