A New Year at Keebra
Well a new year is well and truly upon us and its great to see the boys already hard at work training for the upcoming season.
The Opens are looking strong as we enter into the trial phase of the season and with the new under twenties competition set to start this year there is everything to play for as the top clubs will no doubt be keeping a keen eye out fro any new talent.
The 15's, 14's and 13's are also training well and hopefully they can continue the proud traditions of league at the school and perform even better than they did in 2008.
Friday morning training will start this friday and with Mr Campbell running his fitness sessions there is sure to be some pain and suffering ahead. However the upside of these sessions are increased speed, agility and fitness so be there early, get the work done and reap the rewards.
Look out for updates every week and any volunteers to write match reports will be greatly welcomed and added to the page as they are handed in. So if you are a budding sports writer and can help in this department see Mr Hart at school for an outline of what is required.
ROOKIES ATTEND WESTS TIGERS SCHOLARSHIP CAMP
Twenty-three promising young rugby league players have converged on Concord Oval to participate in the annual Wests Tigers Scholarship Camp.
The players hail from Country NSW, Queensland and New Zealand and are aged between 16 and 18.
After receiving their Wests Tigers clothing and training gear, the rookies were put through a weights session on Monday, January 21, under the direction of Wests Tigers Strength and Conditioning Co-ordinator David Boyle.
Wests Tigers players John Morris, Chris Lawrence, Todd Payten and Ryan O’Hara assisted Boyle in the session, showing the young players the correct way to lift weights.
The players were then taken for a testing skills session at St Lukes Oval where they were put through their paces by Payten, Wests Tigers Toyota Cup Assistant Coach Andrew Willis and Wests Tigers Toyota Cup Manager Darren Mooney.
The scholarship camp runs until Thursday. Some of the other activities the players will undertake include a team ballwork session, boxing, and a talk on education and welfare.
They also will watch a Wests Tigers NRL training session.
