Two Australian Schoolboys for Keebra

During the first week of school, the Under 18 Queensland Schoolboys contested the National Championships held at Wynnum, Brisbane. It was an opportunity for four Keebra Park students, Tom Mikaele, Payne Haas, Kees Nicholson and Liam Pakau to test their wares against the country’s best and aim for higher honours.

Throughout the week Queensland turned in mixed performances with a loss to NSW Combined High Schools and a tough gritty win against NSW Catholic Schools who eventually were crowned champions. Queensland were then defeated in the semi-final by NSW Combined High Schools but bounced back to record a 3rd place finish beating NSW Independent’s in the 3rd/4th playoff.

All four Keebra Park representatives performed extremely well during the carnival, however it was Tom Mikaele and Payne Haas who stood out as QLD’s best performers. As a result they were selected to the Australian Schoolboys Side to compete against England in the coming weeks. This is an incredible effort, as only two QLD boys were selected in entire the side.

Congratulations to the both of you, it is a reflection of your hard work and discipline over a number of years that has gotten you to this point.
